Why Hank and Beth Martin Belongs in the TRUTHSEEKERS HALL OF FAME
Hank and Beth Martin deserve a place in the TRUTHSEEKERS HALL OF FAME because they have chosen to use their musical talents in service to people who are too often lonely, overlooked, or forgotten.
Many talented performers seek large audiences and public recognition. Hank and Beth have taken a different path: they visit nursing homes and sing for the residents. Their performances bring music, laughter, companionship, and precious moments of happiness to people whose opportunities to attend concerts or community events may be limited. Hank and Beth understand that a person’s talent becomes even more meaningful when it is shared with those who need encouragement.
Hank Martin has an important place in South Carolina’s musical history. He composed and performed “South Carolina on My Mind,” which became an official state song in 1984. But Hank and Beth’s greatest contribution may not be measured by awards, applause, or the size of an audience. It can be measured by the smiles they bring to nursing-home residents and by the friendships they form with people who need to know that they still matter.
One of those special friendships was with Jeremiah Manson. After learning about Jeremiah, Hank and Beth visited his nursing home and performed there several times. They brought joy, music, fun, and companionship not only to Jeremiah but also to his fellow residents. Jeremiah’s published obituary records that Hank and Beth first appeared with him on a program, later sang at his nursing home, and became close friends with him. It also recognizes Beth’s extraordinary kindness in helping Jeremiah move from one nursing home to another.
This was more than entertainment. Hank and Beth made Jeremiah feel remembered, valued, and loved. Their friendship continued until his passing, and their grief reflected how deeply he had touched their lives. They have honored his memory by associating their mission of bringing happiness to nursing-home residents with Jeremiah’s legacy.
